SÃO PAULO STATE UNIVERSITY (UNESP)

Throughout its 30 years of history, Universidade Estadual Paulista “Julio de Mesquita Filho” - UNESP has consolidated a project joining scientific, technological, economic, cultural and social development committed to democratic principles and clearly conscious of its status of a governmental institution, inserted and highly active in Brazilian society. UNESP´s actions are focused in nearly every field of experimental and theoretical sciences such as: engineering, health, communication, humanities, social sciences and arts, among others.

UNESP is one of the largest and most important Brazilian universities, with distinguished achievements in teaching, research and extension services. UNESP is supported by State funds and along with USP (Universidade de São Paulo) and UNICAMP (Universidade de Campinas) offers free public higher education in Sao Paulo State.

EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE STUDIES
UNESP offers 168 undergraduate programs at bachelor's level in nearly every knowledge areas and prepares students for 63 careers focusing Humanities, Biological and Exact Sciences, in a high educational level.

The excellence of UNESP's programs is guaranteed by its highly qualified faculty staff. More than 85% of its professors work full time in teaching, research and extension services, and 75% of them have a Doctor's degree.

UNESP offers 174 graduate courses at Master and Doctorate levels divided into 101 Master and 73 Doctorate courses embracing the most important research and knowledge areas highly qualified by CAPES, the main Higher Education Federal Government Agency in Brazil.

INFORMATION FOR INCOMING STUDENTS
Academic calendar

Academic year (2 semesters):

1 st semester
= February - June
2 nd semester = August - November

The detailed calendar of teaching and examination dates depends on each teaching unit

Application deadline

1 November for a study period during the first semester
15 May
for a study period during the second semester

Application procedure

UNESP has cooperation agreements with partner universities allowing their students to spend a study period of one or two semesters at UNESP obtaining credits recognized by the home university. Applicants must complete the UNESP Exchange Student Application Form (available online):

A copy of the student's transcript record, resume and the completed/signed Exchange Student Application Form must be mailed to AREX at the deadline indicated below. AREX will check each file and if complete, dispatch it to the teaching unit concerned in order to decide if the application is suitable for the proposed courses. The confirmation of the complete file will be acknowledged by email. AREX will mail an acceptance letter and an information package to the student's personal address. The approved learning agreement will be handed out to the student upon his/her arrival.

Housing

Students can rent a room in student residences or private rooms. AREX will provide information on availabilities in each city upon request.

Language of instruction

All courses are taught in Portuguese. Some placements at UNESP laboratories are available in English.

Orientation/Welcome reception

The detailed calendar depends on each teaching unit

Recommended arrival dates

Incoming students attending the 1 st and 2 nd semesters are expected to arrive on February and August, respectively.
